Nike Air Jordan 1 High Chicago collaborated with “Trophy Room,” a select shop run by Michael Jordan’s second son, Marcus Jordan.
The product drew public attention even before the release because of its unique story and symbolism, inspired by the ‘Freeze Out’ incident that Michael Jordan had when he was a rookie back in 1985. In 1985, playing in his first-ever NBA All-Star Game, Michael Jordan was denied the ball by his teammates who wanted to embarrass the rookie. At the time, the media described him as being ‘frozen out,’ which means ‘be frozen up, being unfriendly, throw someone out.’
Many details inspired by the story are hidden in the shoes. The upper is top coated with a glittery finish, and the icy translucent rubber outsole expresses the cold image of ice as if the shoes were frozen. The stitches are in white instead of the regular Chicago Red stitches, which adds scarcity value to the product. 1985 All-Star Game motivated logo is engraved on the outsole, and four stars representing the All-Star Game uniform are also engraved beneath the arch. The side heel sporting Michael Jordan’s autograph completes the distinctive design. Extra cushioning is installed on the midsole to offer additional comfort. The Air Jordan X Trophy Room logo is engraved on the red colored insole. The phrase ‘Rumor has it…’ is embroidered on the inside of the back counter.
In addition, a commemorative ticket motivated by the 1985 All-Star Game tickets is included in the box. The production story of the sneakers is written on the back of the ticket. Hidden details are also on the shoe box. Trophy Room and Jordan Wing logos are printed on the inside of the shoebox lid. The product is very high in scarcity as it is limited to just 12,000 pairs and not even released in South Korea.
